Mid- Summer ideas for kids...and your sanity!

GOT THE MID-SUMMER WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO-BLUES?!?!?
Kid's driving you nuts?? Let's all admit, a bored kid is well....I will just leave you to finish the sentence..nahh I will just go ahead and say it bored= trouble!!!

Look below for some ideas for ways to keep your kids entertained and have some great parent-child interactions. Most are not listed by age's as every kid enjoys different things, so pick out the one's your kids would like. I also linked the web site if I took the idea from someone. :) I just did the research for you so you have a bunch of ideas in one neat little place!

*Sidewalk chalk
Dollar store people!

*Build a fort. let the kids go nuts with sheets blankets etc..they can eat lunch in there. At first they may thinks its a little lame, but once they get into it..they will love it.

 * Colored sand- Get from the craft store and let the kids fill the jars with it. They will love doing it and making colorful creations! Trust me, even the after school kids love this!
This isn't exactly how I have done it, but you get the idea: http://www.ehow.com/how_2312390_make-layered-sand-jars.html
***Definitely put newspaper underneath or use trays, (dollar store!) messy, messy.
Outside works great too!

*Marshmallows
Did you know they will stick to paper if you lick them?!?! Yup they sure will..Ok maybe not perfect but still..Kids will love licking them and sticking them to colorful construction paper. I liked the little ones to make a snowman, ok so it won't cool you off this summer-but still fun to make. Get creative and make anything...random pictures, spell your name, etc etc..you get the idea!

* Water. I am sure you figured this out already but little kids love water. Grab a big tub from the dollar store and put out back. Put a baby doll in it and let them wash the baby, dishwasher soap is awesome! Older kids may get a kick out of sea shells or other little things, your afterschooler's may enjoy it too if the tub is big enough..you can add lego's/blocks/cars/colored bubbles etc etc..depends on how old the kid is.

* Scavenger hunt. You can make up cards that give a hint to each location like "its somewhere you wouldn't want to stay in for a long time" (freezer) then that card in the freezer, leads you somewhere else..so on and so on. you could always make enough to where they compete with each other to see who gets all their cards first..or let them do this for each other..keep them busier longer....prize at the end. Only one kid? They will still enjoy it, you get in on the action too!

* Homemade goop (its kinda like slime and my after school kids always loved it)
* Mix white glue and liquid starch until you get a consistency that is like slime. Kind of like silly putty but a little gooier. Add a little more starch if sticky. http://unplugyourkids.com/2008/10/13/glue-starch-goop/
 * The Cornstarch version http://lilduckduck.com/homemade-goop-recipe/817

* Cooking projects:
Little kids love this one-
Ant's on a log
Celery-peanut butter and raisins. After yall put peanut butter on the celery, then let the kids put on the ants! Good "trick" to eat healthy because they love doing it themselves. Cream Cheese rocks too!

Little ones:
* Whip cream for the little ones, or pudding...wont hurt if they eat it and they will like putting her hands in it...maybe timid at first..
Those little pop-ice posicles take little kids forever to eat too and they love them!
